2005 Tax Calendar


January 2 Tax Season Officially Begins. First day for Electronic Filing 1040.
January 31 W-2s and Form 1099s are due from employers and payers of interest, dividends, etc.
February 15 File new W-4 forms if exempt from income tax withholding in 2004
February 28 For victims of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, extended deadline to file any 2004 tax returns, pay any taxes and make any deposits due. This provision of the Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act of 2005 includes employment and excise taxes in addition to income, state and gift taxes.
March 15
  • For S corporations: File a 2005 calendar year income tax return (Form 1120S) and pay any tax due. Provide each shareholder with a copy of Schedule K-1 (Form 1120S), Shareholders Share of Income, Deductions, Credits, etc., or a substitute Schedule K-1. If you want an automatic 6-month extension of time to file the return, file Form 7004 and deposit what you estimate you owe.
  • For Corporations: File a 2005 calendar year income tax return (Form 1120 or 1120-A) and pay any tax due. If you want an automatic 6-month extension of time to file the return, file Form 7004 and deposit what you estimate you owe.
April 17
  • Tax Returns Due. Or, file an extention with Form 4868
  • Individuals make first 2005 estimated tax payment
October 16 Form 4868 extensions Tax Returns Due, if you filed an extension. Otherwise, file Form 2688 for additional extension.
